Leith running club is a brand new running club created to get people started running and give more advanced runners a local group to go running with, without having to travel.
We are a friendly, amateur club, ready to welcome runners of all abilities.
We have weekly runs, on a Wednesday night at 7pm for approx an hour and a Sunday afternoon at 1pm for distance runs. Additional runs to be announced.
Weekly sessions will include speed and hill interval training.
Please note for weekly runs we expect runners to be able to continue to run for up to an hour. Otherwise please enquire about extra shorter runs we may be doing.
Running Classes Times:
Wednesday Evenings & alternate Saturdays and Sundays
Tips for Beginners
1. Begin with going for a walk. Going out alternative days for 30mins will give you a great foundation for beginning to run.
2. Start off with a run/walk programme. Starting off with 30seconds to 1min then walking to recover.
3. Keep your pace slow, the most important aspect of running is to regulate your breathing, once you have that sorted, you will find running at a slow pace, comfortable.
4. Have a date in mind to compete in a race, a 5k fun run is the 1st step and a brilliant event to compete in, support all the way!!
Training programmes are available for 5k, 10k, and half marathon training.
We have fantastic trainers of all abilities who are more than welcome to help you achieve whatever goal you have!!
I hadn’t been running for years and I decided to get back into it after a friend had told a story about me in a pub one day, and the words, “her big fat ass”, were included!! So I decided to train for a half marathon to prove her wrong in June 2010.
So I started and completed the Glasgow Half Marathon, in September 2010 and then went onto to do the Amsterdam Half Marathon in October 2010.
After doing no running from October to March, I decided to do the Edinburgh Half Marathon in May 2011 but, as I had only trained for 8 weeks, I picked up an injury, though still managed the run.
So that made me realise that if I wanted to be a runner, and get quicker, then I would have to KEEP ON RUNNING!
That’s what I did, I kept training after Edinburgh for Amsterdam Half Marathon which was October 2011 which was my best run up to that point. Now I am looking forward to starting my training for the Barcelona Half Marathon in Feb 2012!
To keep me motivated over the winter, I decided that I would join a running club, but all the locations meant that I would need to drive my car to get there Which for me, defeats the purpose. I want to walk out of my door, and run!
This is how the idea came into being and Leith Running Club was born...
